The Fort Wayne TinCaps let a five-run lead slip away in a 9-7 loss Thursday to the West Michigan Whitecaps. The game at Parkview Field was delayed by rain for 1 hour and 24 minutes in the middle of the fourth inning.

Fort Wayne scored all of its runs in the third inning. The 7-run outburst was highlighted by back-to-back home runs. Hudson Potts connected on a three-run homer and Buddy Reed hit a solo shot. For Potts it was his 12th of the year and the third for Reed. A.J. Kennedy had an RBI-double in the inning while Jorge Ona had an RBI-single. The other run scored on a wild pitch.

Jim McDade started on the mound for the TinCaps. The 24-year-old right-hander pitched allowed three runs on five hits in four innings while striking out seven. Manager Anthony Contreras chose to replace McDade after the long delay and Fort Wayne leading 7-3.

Wilmer Torres replaced McDade to start the fifth inning and did not register an out. All six batters he faced reached base safely - three by singles, two by a walk and one by an error. He was charged with four runs - three earned.

Will Headean took over for Torres and allowed the inherited runner to score on a single to tie the game at 7. Headean eventually struck out the side.

West Michigan took the lead for good when Headean allowed a two-homer to Anthony Pereira in the sixth. Headean, 1-5, struck out two more batters in the inning to finish with five in two innings on the mound.

Mark Zimmerman blanked the Whitecaps for the next three innings on no hits. He walked one.

Fort Wayne had seven hits in the game with six coming in the 7-run third. Potts, Reed, Ona, Kennedy, Nate Easley, Reinaldo Ilarraza, and Tyler Benson had the hits.

The San Diego Padres announced two roster moves earlier Thursday involving the TinCaps. Right-handed pitcher Diomar Lopez was transferred from Fort Wayne to the Short-Season A Tri-City Dust Devils. Lopez made 25 appearances with the TinCaps — all in relief — and was 2-2 with a 4.46 ERA.

Right-handed pitcher Jose Galindo was transferred from Tri-City to Fort Wayne. Galindo posted a 0.90 ERA in five appearances (10 innings) for the TinCaps in May.
