The Fort Wayne TinCaps erased a 7-3 deficit with five runs in the seventh inning to beat the Bowling Green Hot Rods 8-7 on Friday at Parkview Field. It was the their biggest comeback win of the season as they trailed 5-0 after 2 1/2 innings.
Trailing 5-0, Fort Wayne started its comeback in the bottom of the third inning. Luis Anguizola, who was called up earlier in the day from Short Season Tri-City, hit a two-out single. Fernando Tatis Jr. followed with his franchise record-tying 20th homer of the season to make the score 5-2. Jake Patterson set the record in 1997.
G.K. Young hit a solo homer in the fourth inning to trim the margin to 5-3. It was Young's ninth home run of the season.
Bowling Green added two runs in the sixth to take a 7-3 lead. The Hot Rods got all of their runs off TinCaps' starter Lake Bachar, who was credited with five innings pitched after failing to get an out in the sixth before being replaced by Jose Galindo with two runners on base.
Fort Wayne took the lead in the bottom of the seventh. Young and Hudson Potts led off with back-to-back singles. They scored when Jack Suwinski followed with a triple to right field to trim the margin to 7-5. Buddy Reed's sacrifice fly drove in Suwinski to pull the TinCaps to within one.
A single by Tyler Selesky and consecutive walks to Nate Easley and Tatis loaded the bases with one out. After Reinaldo Ilarraza struck out, Jorge Ona and Young drew walks to drive in Selesky and Easley and give Fort Wayne an 8-7 lead.
Galindo, 1-0, picked up the win on the mound after relieving Bachar. The 6-foot-4 right-hander from El Paso, Texas, didn't allow a run in 2 2/3 innings while allowing two hits and striking out four.
Hansel Rodriguez pitched the final inning and a 1/3 to get his eighth save of the season. Rodriguez allowed one hit and struck out two.
Tatis and Young each had two of the TinCaps' nine hits. Other hits were by Potts, Suwinski, Reed, Selesky and Anguizola. Anguizola was called up to fill the roster spot of Brad Zunica who was put on the disabled list after being hit with a pitch on the foot Tuesday night.
