Senior Sean Ferguson tossed a no-hitter in win over Bellmont

Wednesday, May 10, 2017 10:22 am

Tuesday was a big night on New Haven High School’s Bischoff Field. Senior Sean Ferguson fired a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts and also hit a home run in the Bulldogs’ 10-0 win over Bellmont.

It also marked the 600th win in the career of New Haven coach Dave Bischoff. In his 33rd year as coach of the Bulldogs, Bischoff became the 27th coach in Indiana High School baseball history with at least 600 wins. He’s won 10 sectionals and three regionals in his career and has a winning percentage of .620.

The only other coaches from Northeastern Indiana in the “600 Club” are former coaches Bill Jones of DeKalb and Don Sherman of Huntington North.

The Bulldogs got all the runs they would need in a four-run second inning. They added four more in the fourth inning when Ferguson connected on his seventh home run of the season. The game ended on the ten-run rule in the sixth when New Haven scored two more aided by the third error of the game by Bellmont.

Junior shortstop Nick Ammer collected three of the Bulldogs’ 13 hits in the game including two doubles. Junior Austin Myers and sophomore Carson Bussard added two hits each. One of Myers’ hits was a double.
