Indiana University men’s basketball coach Archie Miller has landed his first key recruit in the 2018 class in power forward Race Thompson, although Thompson could reclassify to enter IU this fall.
Thompson, a 6-foot-8, 200-pound player from Minneapolis, Minn., announced his commitment to IU via Twitter on Sunday.
“Blessed and excited to announce my commitment to further my education and basketball career at IndianaUniversity!” he tweeted. “Thanks to everyone who has helped me along the way.”
Thompson told the Inside the Hall website that he is planning to reclassify to the 2017 class, enroll at IU in August and redshirt this coming season.
Thompson’s father, Darrell, was a running back at the University of Minnesota in the 1980s and set the school’s career rushing record. His mother, Stephanie, was a standout volleyball player at the University of Iowa.
Race Thompson averaged 19.6 points and 8.9 rebounds per game last season as a junior. He hit 45 percent from three-point range. Thompson is ranked No. 72 nationally by 247Sports.com.
