LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Seven Republicans betrayed their constituents

I was devastated to see that seven Republicans had voted against defeating Obamacare, expecially when five of them had voted to defeat it in 2015. Based on that vote, they got re-elected. Do you suppose that is why they voted to defeat Obamacare because they knew very well that President Obama would veto it, but it would get them re-elected? It accomplished what they wanted.

This week, they showed their colors by not voting to pass the same bill when they knew President Trump would sign it.

Obamacare is breaking this country. It has caused millions of people to lose their insurance and jobs and is costing other millions to pay over twice what they used to pay because they are paying for things they do not want or need — again caused by stipulations of Obamacare.

The bill from 2015 would have stopped penalties and many other things from Obamacare that are hurting the American people. It would also provide for two years for Congress to pass a better bill—with a lot less pages to read and a lot less rules.

Many insurance companies have gone out of business and that has eliminated competition to help keep prices down. Many doctors have quit or moved to another country because of Obamacare.

Medicaid has exploded putting a tremendous burden on the states. This would be reduced because people would be enabled to afford insurance again; thus, taking some strain off state budgets. Of course, it would mean people would again have to pay for their own insurance!! Could this be why many don't want Obamacare defeated?

This is not a socialist country. The government is not responsible for insurance of any kind for people. It is not suppose to provide income for people. Eventually socialist countries die because people lose enthusiasm to produce when the government has taken over business and basically tells people how much they can earn. Socialist health care is not close to what we have here—just look at how Canadians flock here for needed surgeries. People in socialist countries will tell you that we are much better off here.

But we are losing our freedoms daily because our elected officials have their own agenda and don't care what the majority of Americans want. Check out how the seven Republicans from various states abandoned the majority desires to keep the money they are getting from a few rich sponsors.

This is still a Republic—let these people know your disappointment and let the Republican Party know that if they can't stand by their promises, we may have to look elsewhere at the next election….
