The recent guest column by John Kessler was excellent. His opinion of what young families are looking for in a city was absolutely correct. Affordable housing, multiple school systems, nationally recognized zoo, health care options, restaurants, the arts, park system, all at very affordable pricing. Great housing options are available in many areas within a twenty minute drive from downtown. We are also a reasonable drive to many large metropolitan areas.
It is hard for me to believe spending upwards of $100 million of riverfront development will ever generate the kind of private investment the city is projecting. For five months a year it will be barely used. I find it interesting that in all of the renderings, the river is a perfect shade of blue. When will that happen? If we're going to spend that kind of money, why don't we build a downtown arena which would be used by thousands of people all year long.
