To all neighbors, friends and strangers, I offer this New Year’s greeting: May 2017 bring hope and strength to the weary; encouragement to the discouraged and the promise of Christ to those who do not know Him. When it hurts, when hope seems far away, when challenges seem overwhelming, when I feel like layers of trouble are going to crush me, this is when I must remember to put on the full armor of God and trust in his promises. Ephesians 6:13-18. I wrote this poem to remind myself to keep my priorities straight:

Help me Lord, I cannot do this, help me Lord this very day, Help me Lord, I bow before you, all I know to do is pray!

In the daytime, in the night-time, every moment of the day, please Lord know my first  desire: always in your will to stay!

On with belt and on with helmet, on with breastplate, sword display, these are tools that you have given, gird my courage as I pray.

The evil one, the fallen angel, stalks me as I meet the day, putting on the spiritual armor guards me as to him I say:

No, oh no, you can’t defeat me, God is with me here today, and surrounds me with protection, as I go to him and pray.

Does this mean I shall not suffer from the arrows cast my way, in this life there will be sorrow, but his promise saves the day.

One day Christ said he’ll return to call his church to be with him, This dear friend I do remember: He died to take away my sin.

So, thank you Father for your blessings, gifts provided every day, and thank you for the blessed assurance, help, when in your will I pray.
