I am sympathetic with columnist Reggie Hayes' concern that college games may infringe on the tradition of Friday night high school football. The Homestead coach claimed that Friday night should be a sacred night for high school football. I am inclined to agree.
High school football brings people together, helping to knit together the fabric of our community. But, if we are going to talk about things sacred, imagine how we in the church feel when sports have taken over Sunday, and, much worse, youth sports have staked their claim on Sunday morning. So much for things sacred.
Indeed, some things matter more than money, or, for that matter, sports. We would all do well to consider that our lives themselves will go into overtime.
