INDIANAPOLIS - A 6-year-old Indianapolis boy is reported in good condition after being rescued from a retention pond that he wandered into.

The Wayne Township Schools say the boy wandered away from a playground during recess Wednesday at Westlake Elementary School and into the pond on the training grounds of the Wayne Township Fire Department on the city's far west side.

Deputy Fire Chief Rick Scott saw the child in the pond and went into the water after him. The boy was fully alert when he came out of the water but received a precautionary hospital examination that found him in good condition.

The school district is investigating the incident.
