The city of New Haven will host an open house Monday, July 17, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Orchard Room of the New Haven Community Center at 7500 Indiana 930 E. Mayor Terry McDonald, Police Chief Henry McKinnon and other city representatives will be on hand to discuss race relations in New Haven.

McDonald will kick off the meeting

In a statement, McDonald said “Everyone benefits when elected officials, representatives of the Police Department and citizens in communities like New Haven come together and learn about what's going on in their city."

Jason Gardner, a 15-year-old African American, was found June 6 after reportedly being assaulted by white men in what family members insist was a hate crime. McDonald issued a statement at the time acknowledging the incident had hurt New Haven's image and to pursue those responsible.
