A man on a speeding motorcycle was critically injured Thursday evening after rear-ending a car on Dupont Road, according to Fort Wayne Police.

At 8:02 p.m. officers responded to a reported crash involving a car and a motorcycle in which the motorcycle operator was injured in the 3200 block of East Dupont Road, according to police spokesman Officer Mark A. Bieker.

Officers found the victim, whose identity was not released, on the ground by the motorcycle. Paramedics took him to a local hospital in critical condition, according to Bieker.

The Fort Wayne Police Department Crash Investigation Team was called to the scene to investigate the crash. Initial reports indicate that the victim was traveling west on Dupont at a high rate of speed. As the motorcycle entered the intersection of Dupont and Interstate 69 it struck the rear of a vehicle in front of it.

The car's driver was not injured, and the initial investigation indicates that speed was a factor in the crash, according to Bieker. It is unknown if the motorcycle operator was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The Crash Investigation Team processed the evidence at this time, which required a portion of Dupont to be closed over I-69 for a few hours.
The Fort Wayne Police Department is continuing to investigate and was assisted by the Indiana State Police, Fort Wayne Fire Department and Three Rivers Ambulance Authority.
