A Fort Wayne man faces firearms and resisting law enforcement charges after he allegedly ran from police Monday night.

Cameron D. Thomas, 35, of the 2300 block of East Pontiac Street, was charged Friday in Allen Superior Court with unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, a Level 4 felony, and a misdemeanor count of resisting law enforcement, according to court documents.

Thomas, who also is awaiting trial on two counts of child molesting, was walking down Oxford Street at 8:05 p.m. Monday when police saw him. Thomas allegedly ran from police as they commanded Thomas to stop, according to a probable-cause affidavit.

Police also reportedly saw Thomas attempt to pull an object from his waistband but struggled with it. As Thomas rolled over the railing of the porch, Thomas allegedly dropped the gun. Police found it contained a loaded magazine with one round in the chamber, the affidavit said.

Police apprehended Thomas near Bowser Avenue.
