A 2-year-old girl reportedly taken forcibly from a van early Thursday in Fort Wayne was found safe late Thursday afternoon after apparently being dropped off at a local restaurant.

An as-yet unidentified man dropped off Adayah Bratton about 4:20 p.m. at the Wendy’s restaurant at 7631 Southtown Crossing, Fort Wayne Police said. The girl was reported to be in good condition.

Police issued an Amber Alert about 3:45 p.m. to ask for the public's help in locating Adayah, who reportedly was pulled from the van about 2 a.m. Thursday in the 800 block of Grace Avenue. The alert was canceled after she was found.

Channing Scott, 46, who reportedly is homeless when not staying at the same residence as Adayah on Grace Avenue, allegedly took Adayah by using a toy scooter to break out the window of a van in which the girl was riding in the back seat, police said.

Scott, who police say is believed to be her father, is described as an African-American man about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighing about 175 pounds, police said. He reportedly has black, dreadlocks-style hair and brown eyes, and was wearing a dark red shirt, gray sweatpants and black-and-white tennis shoes.

Police initially said he may be driving or riding in a 2011 red, Hyundai Accent four-door car with a 2018 In God We Trust license plate with number VKZ918, police said.

Police now also are looking for information about the man who dropped off Adayah at the restaurant. A witness reported the man may be driving a gold Buick with heavily tinted windows and possibly a “college fraternity”-style plate, which was faded blue and yellow in color, on the front license-plate bracket, police said. The witness also said the vehicle may have had gold wheel rims and was very clean.

Scott reportedly was last seen with David Cook, 37, a white man who is about 6 feet tall, weighs about 240 pounds and has brown hair and hazel eyes, police said. Scott may be traveling with Cook, who also is homeless but who has lived at times in Marion.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 436-STOP (436-7867).
