A man received a six-month prison sentence for counterfeiting Tuesday in Allen Superior Court.

Chad A. James, of the 6300 block of South Calhoun Street, received the six-month prison term for one count of counterfeiting, a Level 6 felony.

James pleaded guilty last month and admitted he attempted to pay for food at a local restaurant with a counterfeit $50 bill. When police arrived, they determined the bills in James' possession were counterfeit as they were tattered and ink was running on another bill. Police also noticed the bills had the same serial number.

James told police he got the bills from his mother, the probable-cause affidavit said. He has 43 days' jail credit.
