A jury found a man not guilty of rape charges following a trial last week in Allen Superior Court.

Nathaniel Patten Jr., 65, was acquitted of rape and felony rape, Level 3 felonies, following a two-day trial April 12-13.

According to a probable-cause affidavit, Patten allegedly sexually assaulted a woman during the night of May 5 and morning of May 6, 2015 after he gave the victim whiskey and she fell asleep. The victim awoke in another bed, where she said Patten allegedly attempted intercourse with her and left in his company's truck. Patten maintained he was at work at the time of the assault. Police investigated and found records showing he was at work, but part of his job duties is to run errands during his shift.
