Allen County is joining the city in an effort to keep the rivers clear of debris as the area near their banks is developed.

The County Commissioners Friday were expected to approve $50,000, to be matched by the city, for the purchase of a barge to be used to remove log jams and other items as necessary. Jams often occur near bridges, most of which are the responsibility of the county Highway Department.

As riverfront development attracts more people into the rivers, officials say, keeping them free of debris will improve the area's appearance and safety for boaters.
