A woman found suffering from stab wounds this morning in a Fort Wayne apartment later died at a local hospital, and Fort Wayne Police Department officers are investigating the case.

Fort Wayne police received a call about 9:05 a.m. Thursday about a stabbing at an apartment in Coldwater Crossing Apartments in the 200 block of Northeast Drive, a police report said. Family members of the woman had gone to the apartment to check on her and found she had been stabbed.

When officers arrived, they found the woman down inside the apartment, the police report said. She was reported in critical condition as she was being rushed to the hospital, where she later died.

Police detectives and crime scene technicians now are processing the scene for evidence and canvassing the apartment complex to see if they can find anyone who may have helpful information about the case, police said.

Police have been joined in the investigation by the Allen County Coroner’s office and Allen County Prosecutor’s office.
