A new food truck is hitting the streets.
Local pastry chef Hetty Arts has set the wheels rolling on the city’s first doughnut and pastry truck. Think of it as a mobile pastry kitchen for events, offering delivery and sales of Hetty Arts Pastry’s small-batch doughnuts and fine pastries made from scratch. She specializes in doughnuts and macarons.
Arts says she launched Hetty Arts Pastry LLC in 2014 to create and offer “exceptional sweets that are natural, made from scratch, and convey a sense of nostalgia,” according to a news release from the Northeast ISBDC.
Until this point Arts has used the CookSpring Shared Kitchen in Fort Wayne as a base of operations. Customers include local restaurants and individuals — including brides (she does wedding cakes) and party hosts — who want fine pastry.
Arts was introduced to fine pastry in her native country of the Netherlands. She received a degree in baking and pastry arts from the Midwest Culinary Institute in Cincinnati and honed her skills in various locations, including Chicago and New York City. But she eventually was drawn back to her acquired hometown of Fort Wayne to start her pastry business.
In addition to doughnuts, wedding cakes and macarons, Arts also makes bar cookies, special occasion cakes, chocolates and candies. These items currently are available by special order and at: the Farmers Market at Parkview Field; Conjure Coffee; during Sunday brunch at The Golden restaurant; Ted’s Market; and now through the pastry truck. Another new local food trailer, Head2Hock, is the brainchild of J&C Culinary, owned by Joseph and Courtni Allison. The company provides personal chef services, cooking classes, catering, consulting for new restaurants and now its latest venture, a food trailer. According to its website, www.jcculinary.org, “Our custom designed food trailer will be traveling all over the state of Indiana. ... Our focus will be locally sourced food from all over Indiana offering the highest quality food to the community.”

Thanksgiving Eve buffet
The Lucky Turtle Grill/Lucky Moose Lounge, 622 E. Dupont Road, will host its annual night before Thanksgiving buffet, featuring seafood, 4-9 p.m. Wednesday. On the buffet table: royal red shrimp, crawfish, catfish, pulled pork, salad bar and bread pudding. Cost: $13.13.
Dunkin’ Donuts is celebrating National Espresso Day on Wednesday a special deal: any medium hot or iced espresso will be only $1.99 at participating Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants nationwide. Since Wednesday is the busiest travel day of the year, that coffee might come in handy if you have a long drive ahead of you.
The Subway shop on Clinton Street at State Boulevard, next to Classic Stereo, has closed.
