Country music singer and songwriter Raelynn has always loved dance parties. And on her upcoming trek across the Midwest, Raelynn's RaVe Tour, the Texas-born singer will incorporate this love into her live show in a significant way, she said in a phone interview from Nashville, Tenn.
Each show of the RaVe Tour — which will stop at The Rusty Spur Saloon, 1035 Leo Road, at 9 p.m. on April 21 — includes a live performance by Raelynn followed by a dance music set featuring a DJ.
“It's gonna be such a fun tour because it's different than anything else anybody's done,” Raelynn said. “I go on for an hour (and) 15 (minutes), and then we are going to have a big dance party for 30 minutes. I'm so excited about it.”
Preceding the main set will be a 30-minute playlist of songs curated by Radio Disney Country, a spin-off of the Radio Disney radio network.
Raelynn was recently nominated for an award in The Freshest! – Radio Disney Country Best New Artist category for the 2017 Radio Disney Music Awards, set to air April 30 on the Disney Channel. She was nominated last year in the Radio Disney Country Favorite Song category for her 2015 Gold-certified single, “God Made Girls.”
Raelynn's career got a boost in 2012 when she made it to the quarterfinals as a contestant on NBC's singing competition show, The Voice. At the time, Raelynn was only 18 years old.
Growing up in a musical family, Raelynn said she finished high school at 16 so that she could focus on music. “I just really wanted to get (school) over with so I could travel and do music,” she said. “It wasn't hard. I was homeschooled anyways, so I just did school all year round.”
Earlier this month, Raelynn's debut full-length album, “Wildhorse,” reached No. 1 on Billboard's Top Country Albums after its first week of release. The lead single from the album, “Love Triangle,” rose to a top 30 position on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart in the same week.
Raelynn said she co-wrote 11 of the album's 12 tracks, including “Love Triangle,” an autobiographical ballad about a young kid dealing with her parents' divorce.
“There's a lyric about having a little white suitcase. I remember waiting on the front step for my dad, with a little white suitcase that had Minnie Mouse on it,” she said. “Every part of that song is me. I loved writing the song with Nicolle (Gaylon) and Jimmy (Robbins) and having their perspective, too. That we all had our own experiences to contribute just shows what a universal topic it really is.”
Raelynn recently supported her mentor from The Voice, Blake Shelton, on his “Doing It To Country Songs” tour. In the past two years she has kept a busy touring schedule, she said, going out on the road with other country music stars, such as Miranda Lambert and Rascal Flatts. In 2016 alone, she performed close to 200 shows.
“(Touring in 2016) was crazy, but it was awesome … I love traveling; it's my favorite part — connecting with fans is my favorite,” she said.
