Waterloo-based MetalX announced Wednesday that it plans to invest $35 million to build a scrap processing plant in Delta, Ohio. The new facility will go on 60 acres across the street from North Star BlueScope's flat-rolled steel mill, according to a news release. The operation is expected to handle over 500,000 tons per year and employ more than 80 people. Eventually, it will employ over 100 people and have an annual volume of 700,000 tons.

Construction is expected to begin this fall and the building will be in operation in 12 months.
MetalX acquired M&K Metal Processors in Delta in July, which will handle community recycling and commercial customers but now is handling industrial and commercial customers in northwest Ohio and southeastern Michigan.
