South Side athletic director Tim Burton confirmed on Wednesday that boys basketball coach Mike Novell is no longer leading the program.
"Yes, I can say he has resigned," Burton said.
South Side went 5-14 this season, capped by an 84-67 loss to Homestead in sectional play.
Novell has been a staple in the SAC coaching ranks since he took over for Glenn Heaton at North Side in 2000. He led the Redskins to a pair of sectional crowns in 2005 and 2010.
Following restructuring within Fort Wayne Community Schools following the 2009-10 school year, Novell took over the South Side program and coached the Archers for the next seven seasons.
Novell coached South Side to 16 victories in the 2015-16 season campaign, the most for the program since 2007-08. He finishes his tenure with a 53-94 record with the Archers.
Through his 32-year career, Novell has a mark of 313-410.
The South Side job will likely be highly coveted as it is one of the more storied programs in the area. The 30 sectional championships and 14 regional crowns are tops in the city. However, the Archers have not won a postseason title of any kind in a decade and have not been crowned SAC regular-season champions since 1997.
Next season, South Side is expected to be led by seniors Trejean Didier and Cortney Shorter as well as junior Mikale Stephenson.
