Notre Dame secured a verbal commitment from three-star defensive tackle Ja'Mion Franklin out of North Carolina on Tuesday afternoon.
Franklin chose the Fighting Irish over offers from Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, Louisville and Georgia Tech, among others.
At 6-foot-1, 315 pounds, Franklin projects as an interior defensive lineman at the college level.
Notre Dame is looking to stockpile bodies on its defensive front as it approaches the 2017 season with plenty of questions. Junior Jerry Tillery and senior Daniel Cage are the lone returnees with any significant playing experience in the middle.
Franklin joins twins Justin and Jayson Ademilola out of New Jersey as defensive line commits to Notre Dame in the Class of 2018. Jayson Ademilola is rated as one of the top defensive tackles in the country by many recruiting outlets.
Franklin is the 12th verbal commitment to the Irish class, which currently ranks No. 6 overall according to 247sports.com.
