Notre Dame landed its latest recruit in the Class of 2017 on Thursday, just six days before National Signing Day.  Safety Jordan Genmark-Heath decommitted from Cal and pledged to Notre Dame on Thursday afternoon, giving the Fighting Irish a quality athlete at a need position.

Genmark-Heath, a senior at Cathedral Catholic in San Diego, is rated a three-star recruit by 247sports, a national recruiting service. He is ranked the No. 38 safety in the country and also held offers from Washington State, Oregon State and Utah, among others.

Lack of interest and decommitments have dogged Notre Dame's recruiting in the defensive backfield this cycyle. Genmark-Heath is only the second DB in this class committed to the Irish at this point, joining four-star safety Isaiah Robertson.

Notre Dame's class now sits at 16 verbal commitments and ranks No. 13 in the country according to Scout.
