The Carroll doubles team of Lauren VanWyngarden and Mia Toscos will play for the state tennis championship at 2 p.m. at Park Tudor High School. The sophomores defeated Talle Corrigan and Kayla Graham of South Bend St. Joseph 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 in this morning's semifinals a Park Tudor High School in Indianapolis to improve to 31-2 on the season.
They will face Center Grove juniors Isabella Schoolcraft and Cassidy Hardin, 22-0, in the title match after they defeated Carmel 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 in the other semifinal.
The Fort Wayne area has never had a doubles state champion, but several teams have finished second, including Carroll's Makenzie Schoeff and Taylor Stanchin in 2014, Bishop Dwenger's Elizabeth Maxson and Audrey Rang in 2012, Homestead's Brooke Parrish and Connie Shim in 2003, Homestead's Alicia Butz and Molly Figel in 1996 and Homestead's Meagan Everett and Susan Lentz in 1992.
Canterbury sophomore Kyra Foster was defeated by Carmel's Lauren Lemonds 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 in their singles semifinal this morning. Foster finishes her season 28-2.
