Area tennis stars receive all-state notice

State finalists Kyra Foster of Canterbury, a singles player, and the Carroll doubles team of Lauren VanWyngarden and Mia Toscos have been named to the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association all-state team. Foster, a sophomore, reached the state semifinals and finished with a 28-2 record. Toscos and VanWyngarden, both sophomores, finished second in last weekend's state finals, and completed a 29-3 season.

The awards were voted by the state coaches association over the weekend.

Second-team members are Bishop Luers sophomore Caroline Rahrig and Carroll junior Sydney Jackson in singles, while Adams Central senior Jenna Lehman, Blackhawk Christian junior Danielle Williams, Canterbury junior Samantha Becker, Carroll sophomore Bailey Newman and freshman Katelyn VanWyngarden, Leo seniors Ashton Heidenreich and Haley Parker received honorable mention in singles. Doubles teams who received honorable mention are Carroll junior Hannah Wallace and sophomore Katie Beier, Canterbury senior Briana Diehl and freshman Carmen Gnagy and Homestead senior Maddy Heiney and sophomore Payton Krahn.

Concordia's Brianna Baughman and Charity Felton, East Noble's Mya Diffenderfer and Central Noble's Erin Maneke were named to the all-academic team. Blackhawk Christian's Emma Bailey and Allison Nagy, Central Noble's Hannah Geiger and Anna Jank, East Noble's Jordan Axel and Steph Deyo, Canterbury's Briana Diehl, Concordia's Jordan Stevens and Homestead's Maddy Heiney received honorable mention.
