North Side sits atop the Indiana high school mountain...for now.
For the first time in 39 years, North Side's boys basketball program is ranked No. 1 in the state in the Associated Press Poll, which was released Tuesday afternoon. The Legends (18-1) ascended to the top spot after New Albany - missing its star player Romeo Lankford due to injury - lost last week to Columbus East.
North Side has not been No. 1 in the state since 1978, when Steve Nelson, Coach By Hey and the then-Redskins held down the top spot in the poll for most of the season. That team lost in semi-state play.
Carroll (10-5) would like nothing more than to make North Side's time at No. 1 a short one. The Chargers host the Legends tonight, with tip-off scheduled for approximately 7:30 p.m.
