Could Ed Schilling be the key to Indiana landing North Side standout Keion Brooks?

Hey, never under-estimate the power of relationships in recruiting.

Brooks is a 6-8 high school superstar. He’s rated No. 17 nationally in the Class of 2019 by Rivals.com, and No. 1 in the state of Indiana. Scout.com has him at No. 14 nationally.

Brooks averaged 20.5 points and 7.4 rebounds this past season to help North Side reach the Class 4A title game.

On Wednesday Brooks announced via Twitter that he had received an offer from IU.

Indiana was recruiting Brooks under former coach Tom Crean, but the Hoosiers raised the stakes with new coach Archie Miller, who recently hired Schilling away from UCLA as an assistant coach.

Why is that significant in the recruiting of Brooks?

Well, Brooks’ father played at Wright State in the 1990s. Schilling was the Wright State head coach in the final two seasons. Schilling also has strong state-of-Indiana recruiting connections.

Given relationships are VERY important in recruiting, this could make a difference.

However, Michigan State looms as the favorite. Spartans coach Tom Izzo has been recruiting Brooks since before high school.

Purdue, Xavier and Kansas State also have offered. Butler is also very much in the mix.
