City Council OKs Legacy committee

Wednesday, August 27, 2014 - 8:10 am

City Council Tuesday approved creation of committee to screen requests for Legacy funds -- but not before increasing its size from seven to nine members and giving itself the same number of appointees as Mayor Tom Henry.

Under Henry's original proposal, the mayor would have appointed three members, council two and each would have appointed a citizen member. As approved Tuesday and originally suggested by John Shoaff, D-at large, the mayor and council will each appoint three members and one citizen member, with the committee appointing the remaining member and electing a chair. The fund was created through the sale of the City Light electric utility and is reserved for "transformational" projects.
