The Rant is The News-Sentinel's anonymous sound-off forum. The readers' views expressed here do not necessarily reflect the views or opinions of The News-Sentinel. People who worry about poor people “gaming the system” need to do a little research into the financial activities of the rich.

America's middle-class is sowing the seeds of its own destruction by continuing to vote Republican.

The only absolute in this world is that kindness matters above all else.

Why isn't every single mother who gets public assistance required to also make Daddy pay up financially for his fun? Taxpayers pay while he makes babies with more women he cares nothing about.

All the talk is about pre-K education. It used to be called parenting. Another politically correct way to compensate for the failure of intact families. Parents used to teach colors, numbers, manners and other basics, even read aloud to their kids.

When will the mayor and City Council stop spending money on new projects (downtown, bridges, railroads, waterfront) and start fixing old and existing issues like streets, sewers, flooding, etc.?

Months ago, City Council approved funding for the construction of a “shell” building to be built at Interstate 69 and Hatfield Road to the tune of $875,000. What does this building contribute to the residents of Fort Wayne? … This money could have gone to infrastructure.

“Legacy” funds should be spent on fixing infrastructure issues that already exist, not new projects that make things “pretty” and that only the rich can use. What about the homeless, the hungry, … ?Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs says people can't worry about sociological needs if the basic physiological needs aren't being met.

Hurray! Finally Sen. (Dan) Coats gets a resolution passed in the (U.S.) Senate. He is mad at Russia for being in Ukraine. Among the sanctions he wants is the World Cup to be played in a different country. I always knew that Coats was just as effective (at governing) as Jimmy Carter.

I defy any Republican to explain how having compassion and empathy for others is wrong. Their cries of “freedom” extend only to heartless individuals and their supposed “right” to massive personal wealth at the expense of others.

Can any of you anti-voucher people tell me why religion must be removed from schools but teaching leftist ideology and the gay agenda is A-OK?

The fierce John Kerry has drawn a line in the Ukraine, and I'm sure that the Russians (like the Syrians) are quaking in their boots. Kerry said all options are on the table. Is shutting his mouth one of them?

Purdue basketball is a Dumpster fire.

Some ranters seem to be unaware that there are many denominations, Christian and otherwise, which fully endorse same-sex marriage. If these marriages are not recognized by all, is this not an abrogation of religious freedom?

If marriage is solely a religious rite like baptism or Communion, then how can marriages performed by judges be recognized? Why are there not protestations regarding these non-religious events?

Shame on the (school) bus who passed me going over the speed limit!

Violent crimes against our senior citizens are getting more frequent. We need to have severe punishments for those crimes to make criminals decide those crimes aren't worth the consequences.
