My father (deceased) was an engineer on the Penn Central Railroad. I would love for the city of Fort Wayne to get railroad transportation back again. My father’s run was mostly from Fort Wayne to Chicago. As a child I got to ride on the train from Fort Wayne to Chicago as my father’s brother and family lived there. I enjoyed sitting and watching the scenery, and I knew the names of every town and city that we were entering. I knew the smell of the steel mills, so, yes, we were stopping at Gary. And from there Chicago fast approached.

The ride was not time-consuming, and the personal conductor was very polite and helpful, helping people get on and off the train.

I would also like to point out the fact that the railroad transportation would be saving you not only time, but it would also be saving the wear and tear on your vehicles. Railroads repair their rails. They do not patch them. They replace with new rails. It is a lot better than what they do with our roads, streets and highways here in Fort Wayne and Allen County.

So, yes, I would love to sit and enjoy my ride again on the passenger train to Chicago and back, knowing I would be saving time, gasoline money, and wear and tear on my vehicle, and sitting back and enjoying the scenery. It is well worth it. Think of the jobs it would create!
