The Leo and Bishop Dwenger club teams won Indiana State High School Hockey Association championships on Saturday at Lutheran Health SportsCenter.
Leo beat Carmel Gold 2-1 in overtime for the Class 4A title on a a goal by Tyler Grunden after he assisted on Blake Kem's second-period goal. Chandler Reinking made 32 saves in goal as the Lions, 28-9-8, were out-shot 33-18.
Bishop Dwenger also needed overtime to beat Evansville 2-1 in the Class 2A title game on a pair of goals by Justin Richardson. Matthew Kuyvenhoven, Austin Woods and Spencer Gillig had assists for the Saints who also got 16 saves from goaltender Tyler Sather. The Saints, 22-20-2, out-shot Evansville 39-17.
The Summit City Panthers also had a chance at the Class 1A state title but lost to Carmel Blue 3-2 in overtime. Garrett Shanebrook and Nikolas Moehring scored for the Panthers, and Parker Rutherford made 28 saves. Summit City, 16-11-4, won the battle of shots on goal 42-31.
