Ed Whitcomb, Joe Kernan to be honored at Indiana war museum

INDIANAPOLIS — Two new exhibits at the Indiana War Memorial will honor former governors Ed Whitcomb and Joe Kernan.Whitcomb and Kernan are both former prisoners of war. They will be included in the Hoosier Patriot exhibit honoring those who've had military careers and later served the state or nation in public office.

Whitcomb served during World War II and was captured by the Japanese. Kernan spent 11 months as a prisoner of war after his Navy reconnaissance plane was shot down over North Vietnam in 1972.

Kernan, Whitcomb and current Gov. Mike Pence were scheduled to attend the dedication of the exhibits at the memorial on Monday.
