A Vietnam-era tank will serve as a symbol of wars fought and sacrifices made, including lives lost, at its new location in the veterans section of Riverview Cemetery, after its dedication ceremony was held Monday. The M41 Walker Bulldog tank will now be maintained by a perpetual-care fund from the cemetery, 11425 Carroll Road, which is owned and operated by D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Home.

The tank, which was moved from its longtime location at Johnny Appleseed Park in late October, will be the centerpiece of a landscaped memorial, complete with benches, to allow for reflection and remembrance, said Lori Davis, the project manager for D.O. McComb & Sons.

Dave McComb said he was honored to have the tank at the cemetery as such a visible symbol.

"This is from an era where those who fought were not properly honored for the sacrifices they made," McComb said. "Having it here in a place of honor, where it will be maintained for years to come, means that the public can come and see and reflect on not just that era, but on all the men and women who deserve to be remembered for what they have done for our country."
