It's finally opening!Due to an unexpected permit delay, Tucanos Brazilian Grill will open its new Fort Wayne location at 5 p.m. Thursday at Jefferson Pointe, 4130 W. Jefferson Blvd.

The restaurant had been scheduled to open at 5 p.m. Wednesday, but it didn't receive all permits in time, said Mike Bierman, corporate training manager at the new eatery.

If any additional delay occurs, Tucanos will notify people via this restaurant's Facebook page and website, www.tucanos.com/ft-wayne.html.

The restaurant, the ninth in the Tucanos chain, features churrasco (Shoe-HAS-ko) style dining. Meats and vegetables are grilled on skewers and brought to your table by servers. Or skip the meat and order the Salad Festival (aka salad bar and more, including quail eggs, lobster bisque and other hot selections).

In perusing Tucanos' website, I solved a mystery. A few days ago, a package arrived for me from Tucanos that contained a — for lack of a better word — wooden peg about 3 inches high. One end is red and the other is green.

This, I discovered is the Tucanos “cue.” When the green side is up, it tells your server you would like more selections brought to your plate. When you're done, flip it over to the red side.

Hours are 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday-Saturday and closed Sundays. The phone number is 436-4433. Website: www.tucanos.com.Speaking of Jefferson Pointe, Red Mango Yogurt and Smoothies has opened at the shopping center. The yogurt shop is located between Starbucks and Claire's.The former Summit Club on the top of the PNC Bank Building, 110 W. Berry St., closed in 2009, but it has been transformed into a new event center called Empyrean. The business also does catering.

The menu includes blueberry and elder flower soup (a starter) and Korean barbecue beef tenderloin (an entree), just to give you a taste of what Empyrean offers. Food presentation is impressive and creative.

Empyrean's website says its services range from $70 to $90 per person, but that includes a full open bar, cocktail reception and plated meal service, as well as venue rental, labor, service charges and tax.

Of course the venue can't really put a price on the million-dollar view.

Jeremy Miner is the general manager and sommelier, Renee Miner is the chief event designer, and Patrick Whetstone is executive chef.

This is Ben's12th pretzel bakery. The company was founded in 2008 in Elkhart. In addition to soft pretzels Ben's serves dipping sauces, beverages and pretzel pockets.
