Decatur hunter chooses to end life support after he's paralyzed

A Decatur hunter chose to end his life after he was paralyzed in a tree stand accident, according to authorities.

Late on Saturday afternoon, Timothy E. Bowers 32, was seriously injured when he fell from an elevated tree stand, according to a news release Department of Natural Resources.

Bowers was deer hunting in the 4500 block of east 450 N when he fell about 16 feet to the ground. Bowers sustained a neck injury and paralysis from the fall.

Emergency personnel found him took him by Lutheran Air to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne for treatment of his injuries.

On Sunday, Bowers elected to remove himself from life support systems and he died at 7:08 p.m., according to the news release.
