IU challenges students, staff to conserve energy

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A four-week Indiana University challenge to conserve energy has prompted students, faculty and staff to take the stairs, turn off lights and distribute conservation tips.The Herald-Times reports (http://bit.ly/Hwrzwq ) the ninth campus challenge began Oct. 7 and ends Monday. IU officials say previous challenges have helped the campus save about $1.3 million by reducing the use of electricity and water.
Sixteen academic and administrative buildings, 17 residential buildings and 14 sorority and fraternity houses are participating in the challenge.
Those who conserve the most energy in their building will receive a trophy and a water bottle refill station.
