Toddler killed after being struck by family SUV in Fort Wayne

Sunday, October 27, 2013 - 11:48 am

A 1-year-old boy was killed Saturday evening in Fort Wayne after being struck by a family SUV.

At 6:47 p.m. Saturday, the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 4100 block of Hiawatha Boulevard on a report of an injury accident, according to police spokesman Officer Christopher Felton. The initial investigation revealed that family members were rearranging vehicles parked in the driveway of the home. While moving an SUV, the toddler was struck by the SUV and became pinned underneath. Fort Wayne Fire Department and Three Rivers Ambulance Authority medics freed the toddler, who appeared to be in critical condition. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead by hospital staff.

It does not appear alcohol played a factor, according to Felton. The incident remains under investigation by police.
