NAPPANEE — An Indianapolis police officer fatally shot in the line of duty is being remembered in his northern Indiana hometown as a man who was gregarious and willing to help others.Forty-one-year-old Officer Rod Bradway graduated from NorthWood High School in Nappanee, about 20 miles southeast of South Bend. Assistant Principal Jay Olson coached the future officer in football and track. Olson tells The Elkhart Truth he remembers Bradway as athletic and willing to help others.
Jon Andrews, who also coached for NorthWood, says Bradway "always had a smile on his face." Andrews says he thinks Bradway "loved people and loved athletics, and both of those showed up in the way he built his life."
Bradway was responding to a woman's screams when he was fatally shot Friday.
