Volunteers help Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne

Saturday, September 14, 2013 - 12:01 am

The Indiana Construction Association provided a day of service Thursday to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne by contributing thousands of dollars in trade services to make facility repairs to its main Fairfield Avenue location. The ICA's Leadership Development Committee recruited team members, all from local construction and paving firms, to replace lighting fixtures, plumbing, interior and exterior doors, parking lot repair, and general construction repair throughout the building. The Indiana Construction Association is a construction trade association that provides many services to its members, including legislative support and industry advocacy. Members of the association work in construction and as highway contractors. One of the concepts the committee instills is becoming a “servant leader,” by putting the needs of others first and helps people develop and perform as highly as possible. Calvin Lee of the ICA said in a Boys & Girls Clubs news release that last year the group worked with Community Action of Northeast Indiana. That stimulated “their appetite to continue supporting local nonprofits by giving back to the community,” he said in the release. Joe Jordan, executive director of Boys & Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne, said in the release, “These repairs and improvements will allow us to allocate more of our resources directly to the children.” Companies represented in Thursday's project are Weigand Construction, Fox Contractors Corp., E&B Paving, Buzzo Unicem, Wells Fargo, Shambaugh & Son, Primco and Faegre Baker Daniels.
