Pedestrian critically injured

A pedestrian was struck and critically injured Wednesday morning on Lafayette Road at Paulding Road. A section of Lafayette west of Paulding was shut down while Fort Wayne Police investigated the scene at 10:24 a.m.

Witnesses told investigators that the male victim was attempting to cross from the northeast corner of Lafayette at Paulding to the northwest corner when he was struck by a vehicle traveling in the southbound lanes of Lafayette. Alcohol and or drugs are not believed to be a factor in the accident, according to FWPD spokesman Michael Joyner.

Police did not release the victim's name.

This accident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department.
