Flags at all Allen County-owned buildings will be lowered to half-staff Wednesday in recognition of Patriot Day. In addition, county residents are being asked to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 a.m. to honor those who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

The U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 407-0 on Oct. 25, 2001, requested that the president designate Sept. 11 of each year as "Patriot Day."
