Archer coach calls defeat worst game his team has played

Saturday, August 31, 2013 - 12:01 am

South Side High School football coach Eddie Fields spoke with News-Sentinel sports editor Tom Davis following the Archers' 38-6 loss to Snider at Spuller Stadium on Friday.

On falling behind early:

"Snider is a good football team, but the big thing was that we kept making mistakes. We turned the ball over. We'd start to move the ball again and get penalties.

"Defensively, we weren't getting gap control. It comes back to those things. We didn't play a very good football game. Actually was the worst game since I've been at South Side. I'm very disappointed in myself and the team."

On having experienced players making inexperienced plays:

"Unlike Snider, who has graduated 37 seniors, we have guys who have played as sophomores and juniors. We have experience.

"We haven't played football that poorly this year. We haven't played that poorly last year and we don't expect to continue to play that way. We're going to fix some things."
