How do you stay hydrated and still have some fun?

Tuesday, July 16, 2013 - 12:01 am

Manning Passing Academy officials denied a report that Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel was sent home by Archie Manning because he missed sessions and practices after “partying” the night before.

I believe them. I don't believe Manziel was sent home for partying. I believe he was sent home for sleeping it off during the camp.

Manziel's father said Johnny was suffering from “dehydration.” You would think the Mannings would have some Gatorade, wouldn't you?

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's leaving

Dwight Howard said playing with Kobe Bryant had nothing to do with his decision to leave the Los Angeles Lakers and sign with the Houston Rockets. Not playing with Kobe had a lot to do with it, however.

The Lakers also parted ways with Metta World Peace, who was determined to be expendable when he wouldn't change his name to Metta Uneasy Alliance.

Pulled over for speeding

American 100-meter record-holder Tyson Gay tested positive for a banned substance after years of promoting himself as a clean track-and-field athlete. Some analysts speculate this will turn United States track fans off to the sport, but all three fans said he wouldn't affect their devotion.

It pays to keep Peyton playing

The Denver Broncos signed left tackle Ryan Clady to a five-year, $52.5 million contract. “It was pretty hard to pass up $33 million guaranteed,” Clady told ESPN in the understatement of the week, month, year, decade and history of the NFL.

Not the 'best and brightest'

Kyle Busch didn't mince words about fellow NASCR driver Ryan Newman after Sunday's Sprint Cup race. “Ryan Newman is the biggest stupid idiot out here,” Busch said.

Just to put the statement in perspective, competition for the title among NASCAR drivers is pretty stiff, and Busch is a past winner.

Other backups 'like' this

Sage Rosenfels, who played for four NFL teams as a backup quarterback, announced his retirement Sunday on his Facebook page. It's a sign you're getting too old for the NFL when you retire on Facebook instead of Twitter.

Baseball magnet

Cleveland Indians season ticket holder Greg Van Niel caught four foul balls Sunday. He was signed later by the Chicago Cubs.
