Former Luers standout still scoring in NBA

Deshaun Thomas has 51 points in three summer games

Tuesday, July 16, 2013 - 12:07 am

Deshaun Thomas has always sported a reputation as a big-time scorer, and he's still building on it in his young NBA career.

Thomas scored in double figures for the third straight game as the San Antonio Spurs beat the Atlanta Hawks 96-87 on Monday in the NBA Summer League at Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas, Nev.

Thomas, the former Bishop Luers High School and Ohio State star, hit 7 of 15 shots and scored 17 points with four rebounds, an assist and a blocked shot in 25 minutes of play.

Thomas has scored 51 points in three games (17 ppg). He scored 18 points with four rebounds and two steals in the Spurs' 69-68 win over Charlotte on Friday. He followed that up with 16 points with eight rebounds and one assist in the Spurs' loss to the Toronto Raptors on Sunday.

Former Butler standout Shelvin Mack scored eight points with one assist for the Hawks.

The Spurs continue on to the NBA Summer League tournament, which runs through next Monday. The teams will be seeded for the tournament after more games are played today.
