Drug deal gone bad possible motive for Friday a.m. shooting

Friday, July 5, 2013 - 1:57 pm

A drug deal gone bad is possibly the motive behind a shooting Friday morning on West Dewald Street.

The incident took place at around 11:15 a.m., according to Officer Raquel Foster, a spokeswoman with the Fort Wayne Police Department.

An eyewitness who called for help reported seeing a man on foot shoot another person inside a truck in the 800 block of West Dewald, Foster said, with the person who was shot able to drive himself to a hospital. The victim, whose identity was not released, was in serious but stable condition Friday afternoon, Foster said, with his condition not expected to downgrade.

Foster said that initial investigation indicates that the shooting was drug-related, possibly a drug transaction that went awry.

A description of the shooting suspect was not released and an arrest has not been made; Foster said that investigators were still piecing together evidence early Friday afternoon.
