Auburn man dead after early morning motorcycle crash

Thursday, July 4, 2013 - 7:51 am

An Auburn man is dead after an early morning motorcycle crash.

The incident took place around 1:19 a.m., according to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department. Zachary A. Cloyd, 21, of County Road 50 in Auburn, was reportedly westbound on a motorcycle in the 3500 block of Indiana 327.

Cloyd lost control of the motorcycle as it left the south side of the roadway and entered a ditch. He was then thrown from the motorcycle and struck a tree, causing head injuries that proved fatal, the release said.

The crash remains under investigation, with the release stating that speed does appear to be a factor and that Cloyd was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
