The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Fort Wayne Multi-Cultural Council and the Fort Wayne Police Department hosted the seventh annual Fort Wayne Child Safety Fair at the Fort Wayne Urban League on Friday. According to Jamie Garwood of the Fort Wayne Urban League about 15 different agencies were present including Parkview Community Health, the American Red Cross and the Fort Wayne police and fire departments.
The event is part of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's Taking 25 campaign. Take 25 encourages families to take 25 minutes to teach their children how to stay safe.
Garwood said children who are lower income or immigrants are more vulnerable to abduction or being led astray. Learning more about child safety for parents and children can help counter this problem.
Presenters were also encouraging parents to get their kids involved in activities to keep them away from gang violence.
