A Huntington plant that makes Breyers ice cream will close by the end of next month and lay off roughly 140 workers.
The plant is owned by Unilever, which issued this brief statement on the closing Friday:
"Unilever today announced it will be closing its Huntington, Indiana ice cream factory with production activities concluding by end of July, 2013. The action is being taken to address spare capacity among Unilever U.S. based ice cream plants. The decision will affect approximately 140 salaried and hourly employees at the Huntington factory, where the company manufactures Breyers packaged ice cream," said an emailed statement from Unilever.
The company did not say whether those workers laid off in Huntington will be offered jobs at other facilities operated by Unilever.
