Briefs: Barr Street Market opens; zoo fundraiser for adults; splash pad, pools open

Beginning Saturday and continuing until fall, you'll be able to shop for fresh produce, baked goods, cheeses and other food products at the Barr Street Market, which is located behind The History Center, 302 E. Berry St. Vendors also will sell jewelry and crafts, and there will be activities for adults and children.Market hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.

During market hours, people can visit The History Center for free. Once a month, the museum will offer special tours and photo opportunities, a news release said. More information will be posted on the The History Center's website, www.fwhistorycenter.com, and its Facebook page.The Fort Wayne Children's Zoo will host a new adults-only fundraiser, Zoo Brew & Wine Too, 6-9 p.m. Aug. 23 at the zoo, 3411 Sherman Blvd.

The event features craft beers, wines and local food from more than 60 vendors and live music from the Todd Harrold Band, James & the Drifters and Ivory West.

Tickets include unlimited sampling of foods from more than 25 restaurants and unlimited sampling of dozens of beverages, including beer, wine and hard cider.

Tickets cost $40 in advance and $50 at the door. Designated-driver tickets cost $25 advance and $30 at the door. Designated drivers will wear a special wristband and not receive any alcoholic beverages at the event. All attendees must be 21 or older and will be carded at the gate. Tickets are available at http://kidszoo.org/programs-and-events/zoo-brew/.The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum, in collaboration with the National Endowment of the Arts, Blue Star Families and the Department of Defense, will offer free admission for active-duty military personnel and immediate family members Monday through Labor Day.Community Action of Northeast Indiana (CANI) will close Monday in observance of Memorial Day. The agency will resume services Tuesday.The city's free splash pads will be turned on Saturday and will stay on until Labor Day.

Northside Pool will be open Saturday through Monday and June 1 and 2, opening daily starting June 8. McMillen Pool will be open June 1 and 2, and will be open daily starting June 8. Memorial Pool will open for the season June 8.

Splash pads are open 9 a.m.-9 p.m. daily at the following parks except as noted: Buckner Park, 6114 Bass Road; McCormick Park, 2300 Raymond and Holly; Memorial Park, 2301 Maumee and Glasgow; Robert E. Meyers Park, inside north gate of Parkview Field on Jefferson Blvd., 9 a.m.-11 p.m. on days without scheduled events; Shoaff Park, 6401 St. Joe Road; Kreager Park, 7225 North River Road; and Waynedale Park, 2900 Koons and Elzey.
