The book "The Complete Dinosaur," which was co-edited by IPFW Professor James O. Farlow and illustrated by IPFW graphic designer James Whitcraft, will be featured as one of the “Best of the Best from University Presses” books on June 30 during the American Library Association’s annual conference in Chicago.
The Best of the Best of University Presses program is sponsored by the American Association for School Librarians, an IPFW news release said. The goal is to highlight books for young adult and school librarians that offer a unique viewpoint or coverage of a topic.
Farlow is an internationally known expert in dinosaurs and dinosaur tracks. "The Complete Dinosaur" is a one of the “Life of the Past” series books he edits for Indiana University Press, the news release said.
Books in the series are written by experts in the topic field, but they are designed to appeal to a general audience rather than just to other scientists, the news release said.
Whitcraft, who created all of the chapter illustrations and other graphics for the book, works as a graphic designer and photographer with IPFW's University Relations and Communications department, the news release said. He has a longtime love of dinosaurs and has worked with Farlow on previous projects.
“It took me about a year to finish all the illustrations that appear on the first page of each of the 45 chapters,” Whitcraft said in the news release. “It’s just a fascinating subject that has always fired my imagination.”
